**SUREproductions** What is it that makes an instrumental popular? All popular instrumentals are catchy. How does one make a catchy instrumental? Well, it's a combination of many things. Here's a list of some things that you can find in every popular or catchy instrumental: 1) A good intro - If your song has a poorly designed intro, the person listening to it will simply press the stop botton and the rest of your song isn't even going to get a chance to be heard. 2) Combination of instruments - This is the art of producing. Figuring out which instruments go together is what will make or break your track. Make sure you don't use too many instruments because your instrumental will sound too full. Sometimes it's better to go with too few than too many, because a simple beat is more likely to sell than a beat that sounds complex and confusing. 3) Bassline, Melody, Drums - If your bassline doesn't flow with your melody and drums, there's no way your instrumental will be bangin. Make sure your bassline and melody are on the same scale, and try to make your bassline kick with the drums. 4) A Chorus - Every single song has a chorus in it. So therefore your instrumental should have a chorus part in it. The chorus should start somewhere between a minute and 5 seconds - a minute and 45 seconds (depending on how long your instrumental is). Make sure there is a new instrument that comes in during the chorus, to set it apart from the verse section. REMEMBER: if your chorus isn't bangin', your song isn't bangin' 5) Overall Sound Quality - Remeber to use good quality sounding instruments. If your instruments sound cheesy or computerized, it's going to bring your whole instrumental down. Try to use only your best sounding instruments when making a beat. |

I see there are some great points Sure added, and I will Agee add a few of my own.
The beat should Be created with same steps a writer would use to create a short story or a marketing director would produce a advertisement. Know your audience and connect with them and them a great show. Time spent brainstorming and organizing your ideas, sounds , samples , effects,Etc will speed up the production process. Track your beat. The next steps are simply edit and edit again untill you know it's hot then take a break come back and edit some. Peace. By now you will be so excited with results you forget to save your work.

What makes instrumentals popular is that all humans can relate to the rhythm and melody. Whether it's happy, sad, epic, groovy. It doesn't matter. But as soon as you add lyrics, you immediately create a much more specific world that the listener is now a part of, and sometimes they don't know how to be a part of that world. Especially with hip hop, the poet is rapping about his or her own personal world view most of the time. That's also why it's extremely rare for anyone to really cover a rap well.

Computers are New back in the day people only had Instruments. People connect with Acoustic Sounding Music more than Electro Style Because of Native Waves from Instrumental Music. Its Also More Soothing than hearing an 808 all day or some robotic Techno. It's All About that Music Therapy Acoustics Wins over Electronics because one day your Sequencer might stop working and you might have revert back to pencil and staff paper. So Learn Basic's of Writing to Cause when you can write out what you sequenced then you will be on top.

But a beat isnt gonna be popular unless its marketed right. you gotta put swag behing your beat and the rapper has to tear it up if its gonna be legendary. i.e. Shook ones, Juicy.
