Where did this music originate? During the decade of the 80s, the instrumental rap and hip hop tracks were not a very popular
form of music even though producers and DJs had made rap instrumental beats since the beginning of the hip hop genre itself. However, in 1996, the breakthrough seemingly became mainstream with the rise of DJ Shadow's album titled Entroducing..., in which, it became critically acclaimed worldwide and a spot in the Guinness World Records for the distinction of very first album produced entirely from sampled sources. His influential work paved the way for many instrumental hip hop artists, producers, and musicians to succeed from various genres today.
Who else have influenced instrumental hip hop? Other critically acclaimed artists who have produced famous rap instrumentals and albums include the late James Dewitt Yancey (J Dilla), Ramble John "RJ" Krohn (RJD2), and Otis Jackson Jr. (Madlib). These are just a few of the many artists that have helped shape the industry today.
